Who is going to be our resident millionaire? In all honesty, the payout structure for the Fantasy Golf Millionaire is horrible. If you have not built up tickets from satellites it is probably smart to avoid this contest and max out the Birdie or Best Ball. However, it is very difficult to pass up the temptation at a million dollars.
If you haven’t already read our course preview for The U.S. Open, here is a link to the article:
The statistics that we are focused on this week are:
- SG: Tee to Green
- Greens in Regulation %
- SG: Approach
- Total Driving
- Bogey Avoidance
I could recommending loading up on DJ, McIlroy, Rahm, and Spieth just like almost everybody else. They are all SOLID plays. However, in tournaments, we need to focus on the players that will garner lower ownership.
Paul Casey ($8,400) – This is a crazy price for a player of this caliber. Casey is lights out in the statistics we are looking at this week and is our TOP ranked golfer. We will be absolutely loading up on Casey this week. Casey ranks 3rd in SG:Approach, Scrambling, and Bogey Avoidance, 7th in GIR%, 12th in SG:T2G, and 18th in Total Driving. Going to be significantly overweight the field on Casey.
Rickie Fowler ($10,500) – The MC at the Fedex St. Jude have you scared away? Fowler is an excellent play in tournaments for that very reason. He is having the season of his career and a MC at a Fedex St. Jude shouldn’t change that. Dufner’s ownership was sub 5% after his MC when he won the next week. Fowler ranks 1st in Total Driving, 5th in SG:Approach, 6th in SG:T2G, 13th in Bogey Avoidance, and 23rd in GIR%.
Sergio Garcia ($10,000) – Garcia is another player coming in HOT. A stud off the tee, Garcia ranks 2nd in Total Driving that will certainly help him avoid the fescue grass and hazardous bunkers this week. Garcia will be looking to add the U.S. Open Championship Trophy to that Green Jacket he accumulated earlier in the year. Garcia also ranks 3rd in SG:T2G, 7th in GIR%, 18th in Bogey Avoidance, and 30th in Scrambling.
Hideki Matsuyama ($9,800) – Hideki is going to pull of another victory here soon and it could very well be this week. One of the premiere ball strikers on tour, if he can string together 4 rounds he will be near the top of the leaderboard. Hideki ranks 8th in SG:T2G and Bogey Avoidance, 11th in GIR%, 13th in Total Driving, 20th in SG:Approach and 28th in Scrambling. Bring me another victory Hideki.
Also Consider: Justin Rose, Justin Thomas, Jason Dufner, Jordan Spieth, Adam Scott
Here are the players below $8,000 that we are targeting to complete our lineups. I don’t believe with the strength of this field that you need to take shots on the amateurs. These players should compliment the studs this week:
- Bernd Wiesberger ($7,100)
- Francesco Molinari ($7,000)
- Kevin Kisner (7,500)
- Ross Fisher ($6,600)
- Marc Leishman ($6,700)
- Matt Kuchar ($7,600)
- Stewart Cink ($6,800)
- Thomas Pieters ($7,700)
- Emiliano Grillo ($6,900)
- Shane Lowry ($7,300)
- Byeong-Hun An ($6,800)
